Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show

What happens when a group of professional landscape companies get together?

The Welcome Garden, MIFGS 2018.

With memories of typhoons, long nights, language barriers and a silver medal with Ross Uebergang for the Gardening World Cup at the Japan Garden & Flower Show 2015 (watch that one come to life in this short video https://www.facebook.com/BayonGardens/videos/902429146510559/), it was quite relieving to be in my home town of Melbourne and not participating in the competition part of the show.

After the initial group meeting, I needed to get a plan of attack for the stone. The impressive bluestone from Bamstone weighs approx. 1.2 tonnes each (that’s heavier than a small car), you could only imagine the machinery involved to arrange the natural stone. Without a single hole put in the ground for the show, building a display garden is quite the art form. The long days were never short of high fives and laughs with our friends at Phillip Withers Landscape Design, who impressively designed & crafted the master piece. Collaborating with like minded pros sure has its benefits beyond the laughs… swapping ideas and visions for the future of landscape design has us inspired. As they say if you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go far, go together.

The Welcome Garden is a celebration of the landscape industry of a whole. The space that greets you as you enter the Carlton Gardens. The place to sit down and relax, get information about the show or enjoy MIFGS talks on the built-in stage.

It was truly a great pleasure for the Bayon crew to join the build of The Welcome Garden 2018.
